Will being green really save you some green?
That is the question many friends are proposing to me recently as I have been promoting greenauto.com. I’ve heard the anti-hybrid argument that points out the costly price of parts when repairs are needed. I have also heard the argument that any repairs would be extremely high priced because not many mechanics outside the dealerships know how to work on these cars. My answer back is that these cars do come with warranties which can be extended and they cover all the major parts of a hybrid including the battery, etc. Also an expensive oil change every 3000 miles will easily be offset by the fact you will be saving a lot of money in gasoline. The next major objection to hybrid automobiles is that they can cost up to ten grand more than a gasoline model. In fact green cars in general are still costly to buy at this point. Honda just recently released their FCX Clarity hydrogen fuel cell vehicle on the streets of California. It is currently being leased out to some elite members of Hollywood for 600 dollars a month![1][1] Until these cars become more affordable to mass produce on the production line, they will only be for an elite group of people and therefore are in danger of becoming a passing trend or fad. Yet like many other technological advancements of the past, as time goes on and the technology is perfected, it becomes more affordable to the public. Just think about a video game system, it has been a technology over the past 30 years or so that has constantly outdated itself. Therefore the prices were driven down. Once further advancements and breakthroughs are achieved through battery technology, all electric vehicles will outdate hybrids and fuel cells, making them cheaper to buy. Also as hybrids become older their price will go down. Just like any other car, which is a losing investment for the owner the minute he or she drives out of the showroom. I can’t think of a more practical and economical car to buy nowadays than a used hybrid. In a few years this will become a more common thing to do than it is now, (check our site where we will have a section for used hybrids listed for sale by owner).
There will always be arguments against the “dual power” of a hybrid as well as other green alternatives in the automotive industry. It is up to a group of pioneers to lead the way for the future, to pay the extra ten grand knowing you will get it back at the pump, to trust the quality of the technology, and to sacrifice the need for extreme muscle on the road. Although green muscle cars are on the way as well! There is still hope for all of us green car enthusiasts on a crusade for the environment. We must be relentless, never give up and continue walking the path towards sources of fuel other than oil. Regardless of what sacrifices we must make. If cars like the Honda FCX become a more feasible reality for the general public, it won’t be so hard to be green anymore!.....................................
Sincerely, Professor Green.
STILL ON A QUEST FOR A GREENER TOMMORROW!!! BUT ALSO A GREENER TODAY!
