Now that the weather is getting nicer I like to jog by the lake near my house a few times a week. I am also trying to drive less. After all, the greenest commute is by foot. As I run I try to pay attention to my breathing, controlling the amount of air I inhale and exhale. When I keep my breathing under control my body runs better, then when I slow down and speed up the transition is smooth. Today while jogging I had an insight. I thought to myself that this was very much similar to how a car runs. If all a car needed was air to run, that would solve a lot of issues in the world today. Then my colleague sent me a link that put it all into perspective. Sources from Popular Mechanics say that an air powered car is coming to the U.S. market at an affordable rate in 2009. Is this too good to be true? Can a natural element such as air exclusively power a car? Reportedly Tata Motors and Zero Pollution Motors (ZPM) expects to produce the world’s first air powered car by using compressed air fed by built in tanks to run the pistons. The idea was originated by a Luxembourg based company called MDI. Their new dual energy engine is what is being put in more advanced prototypes. In these models a custom heating chamber heats up the air in a top secret process that hasn’t been elaborated on yet! This will provide an extra energy source when driving at speeds above 35 mph. Combine this with a 100 mpg equivalent and you have yourself quite a concept. When I learn of more details about this project you will be the first to hear. As for now cross your fingers, take a deep breath and hope that the air car gets released! I know I am. http://www.popularmechanics.com/automotive/new_cars/4251491.html?series=19
